Qingming | Remembering and Moving Forward – We Are All in This Together

Time: 2026-04-04

April arrives, and spring deepens. The wind is clear, the sky is bright – hence the name Qingming.

In Chinese tradition, Qingming is not just a solar term, but a day to converse with memory. Tomb sweeping, ancestor worship, spring outings, planting willow branches, eating qingtuan, swinging on swings – on this day, people pause their busy steps to visit the resting places of their ancestors, taste the flavors of spring, and feel the rhythm of life.

Such a day reminds us of a simple truth: every road that leads forward depends on looking back to where we came from.

I. What is Qingming Festival?

Qingming Festival, also known as Tomb-Sweeping Day, Spring Outing Festival, March Festival, or Ancestor Worship Festival, is one of the four major traditional Chinese festivals. It incorporates customs from the Cold Food Festival and the Shangsi Festival, gradually taking its present form over more than two thousand years of evolution.

Tomb Sweeping and Ancestor Worship
This is the most central custom of Qingming. People bring wine, food, fruit, paper money and other offerings to the gravesites, tidy the tombs, add fresh earth, burn incense, and pay respects. This ritual expresses remembrance and gratitude toward ancestors. No matter how far one travels, one never forgets where one comes from.

Spring Outings
During Qingming, spring returns to the earth and plants begin to sprout. After tending to graves, people often go on outings with friends and family to enjoy the vitality of spring. The ancients called this "exploring spring" or "seeking spring." The living and the departed, remembrance and joy – on Qingming, these intertwine in a wonderful way.

Eating Qingtuan
Qingtuan is a traditional seasonal delicacy of Qingming. Glutinous rice flour is mixed with mugwort or wheatgrass juice, wrapped around fillings such as red bean paste or lotus seed paste, and steamed. The result is green as jade, soft and chewy. This touch of green is the color of spring and also carries thoughts of the ancestors.

Swinging on Swings
In ancient times, swinging was a Qingming custom, believed to ward off evil and strengthen the body. The Tang dynasty poet Wei Yingwu wrote: "Willow trees along the streets form a green smoky mist, painting the clear bright days of the second lunar month. Best is when the flowers sway behind the curtain, as young maidens push each other on the swings." When the swing rises, people float up and down with the wind, and worries drift away.

Planting and Wearing Willow Branches
A folk saying goes, "If you don't wear a willow on Qingming, your rosy face will turn to white hair." People break off willow branches and place them above their doors, or weave them into wreaths to wear on their heads, symbolizing warding off evil and preserving youth. Willow trees are full of vitality and also represent the continuation of life.

Flying Kites
Around Qingming, the spring breeze is just right for flying kites. The ancients believed that flying kites could send away bad luck. After the kite rises high into the sky, the string is cut and the kite drifts away, signifying that illness and troubles are carried off with the wind.

II. Holiday Schedule

According to the national statutory holiday arrangements, GREENSIDE will be closed from April 4 to April 6 (3 days) and will resume normal operations on Tuesday, April 7.

During the holiday, our office will be closed for daily operations. We believe that the purpose of work is to enable a better life. Allowing our colleagues to return to their hometowns during Qingming to pay respects to ancestors and spend time with their families has always been our company's practice.

III. What if customers have needs during the holiday?

Although we are on holiday, our customers' trust will not be set aside.

During the holiday, our business WeChat and email will still be monitored. If you have urgent needs, please leave us a message at any time. We will check and reply intermittently. For matters that need to be handled after the holiday, we will follow up as soon as we return to work on April 7.

This is not any special promise, but rather what we have always done – there is no such thing as "wait until after the holiday" when it comes to our customers.

IV. Final Words

Qingming is a festival about remembering.

Remember where we came from, remember those who gave us life and those who helped us. Remember the paths we have walked, remember the experiences that made us who we are today.

And what we want to remember is all the customers who trust GREENSIDE. Every order from you is the motivation that moves us forward. The holiday is short; after the break, we will continue to work side by side.

May this Qingming be bright and warm, with clear hearts and clear minds.
